About SSECC
Shining Star Early Childhood Center has seven integrated preschool classrooms. Each classroom is comprised of 51% regular education students and 49% special education students. Regular education students pay a tuition fee and must be three years old by August 31 in order to be eligible to attend. All students must reside in Milford.
Special education students enter the program through an assessment process resulting in an individualized education program based on state and federal criteria. Children can be referred for a special education evaluation at age 2 years 6 months.
This preschool also offers three substantially separate classrooms for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. These classrooms are staffed by Milford personnel and are supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The classrooms are staffed with a special education teacher and instructional assistants. The emphasis in the classrooms is on social skills and language development. One of the main goals of the classrooms is to develop and strengthen readiness skills necessary for full integration.
